New Applications - Pump and Motor

If you are interested in ordering equipment for a new application or if you would like to order different equipment for an existing application, this is the worksheet to use. Please note that many different manufacturers produce pumps that are hydraulically interchangeable. That is, the installed pumps will perform identically. However, pumps from different manufacturers are generally not dimensionally interchangeable. So, if you choose to replace a pump with one from a different manufacturer, some re-piping will be required.

Please tell us all the critical information about your application. For example, be sure to tell us if there is any possibility that something, no matter how small, could enter the pumping fluid and therefore clog the pump. Some pumps can handle an occasional hair, nail, or rag, while others simply can’t! Help us choose the pump that best suits your particular situation and needs by supplying us with as much detail as possible. A properly applied pump means longer pump life, fewer breakdowns, and better efficiency.

When you have completed the worksheet, please submit it to us for a quotation.

Characteristics of what you are pumping

Fluid to be pumped

MSDS sheet available? Yes No

Concentration:

Viscosity: SSU or CPS

Viscosity can dictate the type of pump you need to use.

Temperature:

Ambient? Yes No

Actual temperature

Temperature can limit the amount of suction lift the pump is capable of handling. Also, chemicals can be more aggressive at higher temperatures.

Solids:

Does it contain solids? Yes No

Percentage of solids Size of solids Type of solids

Solids include particles of any size that may enter the pumping fluid.

Operating Conditions

Flow Requirements:

US GPM or M 3H

US gallons per minute or cubic meters per hour refers to flow, or the quantity of substance you need to move per unit of time.

TDH: Feet Meters or PSI

TDH (total dynamic head) refers to the performance you want from your pump. TDH is a combination of suction lift or suction head, elevation difference after discharge, and friction loss through piping and fittings. Feet equals PSI (pounds of pressure per square inch) times 2.316.

Range: Maximum Minimum Normal

NPSHA

Net Positive Suction Head Available is a combination of atmospheric pressure and the location of the fluid in relationship to the suction.

Pump Construction

Manufacturer preference? Yes No

If yes, please specify

Materials: Particular applications or pumping certain solutions may dictate materials of pump construction.

Prefer Require

Specify materials: Cast Iron Bronze Bronze-fitted Stainless Steel

Stainless-fitted NiAl bronze Other

“Fitted” refers mainly to the construction of the impeller and the wear ring.

Epoxy coating? Epoxy coating pumps is a cost-effective way of prolonging service life, and is especially useful in harsh environments such as marine and chemical applications.

Yes No Please discuss option with me

Configuration:

Frame-mounted or Close-coupled

Frame-mounted pumps have the pump end mounted on a bearing frame that is coupled to the motor. Close-coupled pumps have the pump end mounted directly on the motor shaft.

Pump Mounting:

Horizontal Vertical

Space requirements or location of piping may influence choice of pump mounting.

Please specify any construction requirements dictated by fluid temperature or caustic fluid.

Sealing Devices: Mechanical seals are the most widely used choice for sealing a pump. Some applications require packing because the substance being pumped could build-up on the seal face and interfere with the mating of the seal faces.

Mechanical seal or Packing

Seal material choices:

Buna Viton EPT Teflon Carbon Ceramic

Niresist Silicon Carbide Tungsten Carbide Other

Packing material choices: Teflon Graphite Other

Choice of sealing materials is influenced by the chemical composition of what you are pumping.

Motor: For most applications, an electric motor is the preferred choice, unless electricity is unavailable or difficult to access.

Electric Diesel Gas
